hotel un peu décevant pour un 3 étoiles, les chambres sont grandes bien agencées mais il faudrait penser à les rénover. pour laisser les bagages il faut se contenter de les déposer près de la salle du petit déjeuner, un peu dommage pour un tel lieu. hôtel bien situé.

, unfriendly, surly staff, and eye wateringly expensive for the dark, tiny room, poor service and very poor breakfast. very very poor value for money and a real shame as we were expecting something nice for theprice as it was the end of our 6 weeks in europe. would not stay here again or recommend it.,

, we stayed for 3 nights in a superior room, which i would not think was superior (wonder what the standard rooms are like?). the room was spacious, facing an inside courtyard which meant it was quiet away from street noice. the bathroom was a little compact especially due to the door opening in and getting out of the shower which leaked due to the doors not closing fully, but not a major problem and had hot powerful shower. bed was hard which i was worried about when we arrived, however found to be surprisingly comfortable after first nights sleep. never got up in time for breakfast so can'.t comment. generally the location was great, walking distance to all sites, room was generally clean and staff found to be polite.,

, first of all, the address that the web site indicated is incorrect. we had to walk a very long bock up the street, luggage in hand, to get to the correct address. the room was a little bigger than a match box. there was construction at the time and when we asked for a differant room, the attendant seemed very reluctant to accomodate us and told us that it was almost time for the construction crew to go home and it wouldn'.t be a problem. our window was right at street level. the staff was less than friendly or helpfull. in our travels all through italy we payed a lot less for better hotels in various cities. the only good thing about that place was the shower head in the bathroom. the shower was tiny, but they seemed to have good water pressure....or maybe we were so tired and disappointed that any shower would have been satisfying. also, the breakfast that is included was horrible. the milk was very warm, croissants very stale, and coffee was not very tasty (i'.m being kind). we will never stay there again.,

, an ok hotel. the staff was not very helpful with our questions though they spoke english well. they do not have a single english speaking chanel on their tvs. our room had a window facing the back of the hotel. not a pretty view at all as it is an alley with parked cars. air conditioning costs extra. our stay was in the first week of october, so we opened our windows... and were woken up every morning around 6:00am, when people would start their cars and scooters and honk for whatever reason. the one benefit from that: the hotel gave us more reason to get out and see rome. if i come back, i'll stay somewhere different.,

, my husband and i stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. the first night we had a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the street front - very noisy. the shower had no warm water. the 2nd and 3rd night we had a room overlooking a back courtyard on the 1st floor and lo and behold, the 2nd floor, water heater was fixed but the 1st floor one was broken! we had to go to a vacant room on the 2nd floor to shower! the hotel is well located, walking distance to most monuments. we even walked to the vatican - half hour to forty-five mins.,

, booked a superior room, but received a poor shelter (without telephone, hairdryer and wc out of order) with very old furniture, while my friend (also booked superior) got a good room. i would not come here again. also poor breakfast!,

, glorified pensione. no bell staff, must carry your own luggage to your room. i was struggling with 4 bags and my wife had a broken toe...the staff just stood and watched as i struggled to carry them up the 10 steps at the entrance of the hotel. rooms, haha. don'.t expect much. wallpaper had masking tape holding certain pieces up, the room is on a slant (you literally fall into bed), if you want ac then you need to rent a remote control for 20 euro, wouldn'.t eat the food, bed was a typical european plank of wood (extremely hard and made us appreciate our bed in the us). otherwise, the location was good. a few blocks from termini station and a 5 minute stroll to trevi. that is the only positive feature to this hotel. we only stayed here as a stop-over returning home. we didn'.t want to fly from sicily to rome and rome to ny in one day. so, the hotel served its purpose and we knew what to expect. last year, we stayed at a much nicer hotel on via cavour. however, the rooms cost about 2 1/2 x'.s as much. so, i guess, where you stay depends on your needs. we really just needed a bed, so it was ok. it just seemed to be misleading and you can probably stay at other places in the area that are cheaper and get the same if not better quality.,

, this is a very friendly, efficiently-run hotel., we had a good welcome from the young man on duty when we arrived, who gave us all the info we needed., it lacks a restaurant, but we found a good one straight opposite which we used every night., breakfast is adequate, not much choice. perhaps some fruit could be included?, hotel is very central to main sights.,

, al nostro arrivo (di sera) abbiamo appurato che la camera non aveva l'.acqua calda. la mattina dopo abbiamo segnalato la cosa alla reception e ci è stato assicurato che il problema sarebbe stato risolto. nel pomeriggio la signorina alla reception ci ha detto di non sapere quando il tecnico sarebbe venuto. ci ha quindi proposto di farci la doccia in una camera al piano inferiore. quando abbiamo chiesto di cambiare camera ci è stato detto che quella in cui potevamo fare la doccia era l'.unica disponibile e che non poteva esserci assegnata perchè , se il problema dell'.acqua calda riguardava tutto il piano sarebbe stata utilizzata come bagno comune per tutti gli occupanti del piano interessato(!!!!!!). davanti alle nostre rimostranze - abbiamo pagato per un tre stelle con bagno in camera non per un hotel con il bagno in fondo al corridoio - la signorina ha risposto con malagrazia evidentemente scocciata dalle nostre richieste. soltanto la sera, dopo diverse discussioni siamo riusciti a cambiare camera. , comprendiamo, ovviamente, che un problema del genere può presentarsi in qualunque struttura ma si presume che il personale di un hotel debba trovare soluzioni adeguate e soprattutto comportarsi con educazione di fronte alle rimostranze - tra l'.altro giustificate - di un cliente,

, spacious, oddly shaped quad room with window on the inside court was quiet even with the windows open, except for early morning garbage truck. air conditioning ok, it struggles a bit on hot days. some maintenance and better/more lighting needed. mattress was firm, almost hard. several good restaurants in the area. its location is closer to popular sights than some of the other hotels in this area. virgilio is a further walk to the subway, train & bus station, but we managed fine walking with our luggage. hotel staff arranged taxi to airport - and they even thought to ask about the size and quantity of our luggage to be sure the taxi could hold it.,

, the bed was hard, like sleeping on the floor!, there was no hot water! when we complained, the, staff told us to let it run for at least 5 minutes! we did. at the end of 15 minutes, still no hot water! we were told at the desk that the room had a safe. it didn't., we won't be going there again!,

location, it was 10 minute walk to the colloseum, 15 minutes to the tomb of unknown italian soldier, 20 minutes to trevoli fountain and spanish steps and 40 minutes to vatican all along beautiful scenery and love the walks! oh, and 1/2 block off via nationale and 5 minute walk to the basilica. directly across the street is a couple of 5 table outdoor restaurants.
the beds/pillows are different in europe, more stiff beds and very thin pillows. air conditioning could have worked better but it was comfortable.
breakfast was very good, cheese, breads, cereals, juice and plenty of coffee, expresso/cappucino. we had the suite since there were 4 of us which contained a large king bed and two twins. we looked in the other rooms which are smaller than a traditional us hotel but for two people very comfortable. hotel was cleaned daily, one unique thing is you must leave your room key at the front desk every time you leave the hotel. the elevator held two people and their baggage but the hotel only has three floors and the stairs only go to the second floor. all in all would definitely stay there again., ,

, great location but the room was smaller than we expected. it was advertised as a 4-person suite but was one room w/king bed and a large hallway w/2 twin beds against each wall which was very cramped. also, the temperature of the water in the shower was very inconsistent (i.e., kept changing on its own). employees were courteous and helpful. free breakfast was ok but not much of a selection of items.,

, just what you need for a short city break - comfortable, clean and walking distance to all major sites (without out being too near and so less busy/noisy/expensive). only problem we had was the shower going hot and cold but after a day of sight seeing we were too tired to notice.,

, the hotel was ideally situated for a city-break holiday. we managed to walk to most things (colosseum, trevi fountain, spanish steps etc.) within 15 minutes so were able to do most things by incorporating them into evening strolls to restaurants. the vatican was quick to get to on the train which was easy and very clean to use during morning rush hour. the service at the hotel was good and the desk staff were friendly and helpful. the breakfasts were plentiful with very hot coffee. there were plenty of lovely little restaurants within walking distance - found a great one called the rose just past the trevi fountain. i would definitely go back to the hotel virgilio and recommend it to others.,

, al nostro arrivo abbiamo trovato alla reception una persona molto professionale, educata e cortese. l'hotel è situato in una posizione veramente ottimale data la vicinanza con la stazione termini e di alcuni dei più importanti e famosi monumenti storici della città. la via è tranquilla e sicura essendovi a pochi passi il ministero dell'interno. la stanza era pulita e molto accogliente. tre difetti li abbiamo riscontrati dalla visuale della finestra, infatti affaccia su un cortile condominiale, dalla televisione in camera non avendo sintonizzati canali satellitari ne italiani che stranieri, ma cosa più importante, dalla luce, sia in camera che in bagno, molto fioche nonostante tre punti di illuminazione. il bagno era accessoriato e delle giuste dimensioni. il nostro giudizio complessivo sull'hotel virgilio è molto buono e se ricapiterà in futuro ritorneremo volentieri in questa struttura.,

fantastico hotel ,de tres estrellas pero en españa serian al menos cuatro.pulcro confortable y totalmente nuevo., lo mejor esta justo detras del mo. de justicia,seguridad maxima en la zona , y al fondo de la calle ya se ve el foro.magnifico y totalmente recomendable.eso si ,el cafe del desayuno horrible,pedid un capuchino y pasad de la jarra que sirven .

i have been to rome, perhaps, 4-5 times. usually it is work-related,. however, i am in my mid-twenties and love to travel, backpacking around the globe whenever possible. this hotel is a great mid-point for me given the price and location. it's no where near as plush or customer-centric as the big hotel chains of the world. but, you can't beat the location or the local knowledge. i would recommend it to anyone who is still satisfied even without the mint on his/her pillow upon arrival.

this is a very acceptable hotel, with a great location. i regretted moving to another hotel that was less nice. i was there in the low season. pros: close to everything, marble entry, great value. cons: a bit noisy, no cable tv.

the hotel is ok and in a very nice location (near both the centre and the station, but out of the awful termini subborb). the only thing i can complain is about the cleanliness of my room, since there was a bit of dust and that was not nice. this apart, staff was very helpful and nice, breakfast is ok (more sweet than salty things but it's normal for italy), and the location is just perfect. i would go there again.

roma es muy grande y no está ubicado entre los monumentos, pero es bastance centrico. tiene paradas de autobus y metro muy cerca. estrategicamente está muy bien ubicado. amplio, limpio y con desayuno incluido. entienden perfectamente el castellano., el mayor problema a sido el sitio para aparcar. hay un garage cerca que cobra 24 euros la noche. si vale de consuelo así es en toda italia., para el precio que tiene es un hotel muy bueno., lo recomendamos.

the hotel is very conveniently and centrally located; however, the room that we had was rather small and very loud. the facilities were adequate but were nothing special. the staff was courteous and helpful but not overly hospitable. breakfast had the least variety/selection of the three hotels we stayed at in italy. i wouldn't necessarily return to hotel virgilio - i would probably try another hotel in the same area.

this is a nice place since it is at a walking distance from a lot of the monuments, and from the historical and antic center. it is close to the termini station as well. i think that 190€ a night is far too expansive but it seems to be the prices for a regular hotel in the center of room and this one is clean and they are very willing to help you at the front desk so...!

don't get trick by the "superior" statement. the facts:, 1. the staff is not welcoming -don't expect them to help you get your luggage up the 5 steps that it takes to get to the hotel reception, 2. the air conditioned: you need to ask them to turn it on otherwise -like it my case- you will have no aircondinioning -very inefficient staff, 3. they asked me to pay in advance which i found it was not great because if i was not happy w the service i had no choice than to stay, 4. i found mosquitoes in my room -i was bitten by them. i told the reception guy and he said: "sorry there is nothing i can do" -he not even try to get me some repelent in the 24hour farmacy in the next block. and the worst, next morning the manager told me: "ah mosquitos are normale" , 5. the rooms are tiny! not worth the 114 euro per nite that i paid: to get bitten by mosquitoes, not nice staff and tiny room with unconfortable tiny single bed (i order a single room), 6. the phone didnt work and i missed my husbands call from the usa. , 7. the only ok: 6 to 8 blocks walking to the forum imperiali where the ruins are. and the bathroom was very clean, 8. my last day in rome, i stayed at hotel galle and it was much much better. the room bigger, the bed more confortable, the staff nicer -they help you with your bags. and they were 5min walk from the termini station where all the buses are. i only paid 95 per nite -cheaper and better

dieses hotel ist wirklich sehr zu empfehlen. unser zimmer war ganz neu renoviert. den einzigen negativen punkt den wir finden konnten war das frühstück, aber das ist ja bekanntlich geschmacksache. das frühstück ist zwar reichlich (buffet), aber der kaffee war zumindest für uns ziemlich ungeniessbar und auch die croissants waren extrem süss. aber wenn man auf kakao oder tee umsteigt und z.b. cornflakes isst, dann ist auch das frühstück wieder empfehlenswert., alles in allem haben wir den aufenthalt in rom sehr genossen und dazu haben die tolle lage des hotels (als ausgangspunkt für stadtbesichtigungen), das wirklich sehr freundliche personal und die schönen zimmer auch sehr beigetragen.

gianfranco was very friendly, location was great, breakfast was adequate, size of rooms were typical european sizes and everything was extremely clean especially the bathroom. only negative and a big one, ac didnt work well. we complained and they did nothing about it. the reception area was wonderfully chill but our room was warm and quite uncomfortable at night. if that was rectified, this is a great hotel.

we had quite a small room on the first night of a three night stay- we were upgraded no problem the next morning into a lovely, spacious room. the hotel is so central, especially close to the colosseum so great to walk around all the sights. we really enjoyed it!

very nice hotel with an excellent location, 5 minutes walk to colosseum, although you'd probably want to take a taxi to popular places like piaza navona, pantheon and so on. , the staff was very nice and willing to help. "green line" bus tours can pick you up at the hotel and that's nice., the hotel has a really claustrophobic elevator, and the stairs only go to level 2, not to level 3 where we stayed (except for the alarmed emergency stairs). so try to get a room on level 1 or 2.

hotel virgilio is a pleasant three star hotel in the heart of rome easily within walking distance of the coliseum and shopping districts. the hotel is easy to find walking from the train station but is difficult by car since it is situated on a narrow one-way street. parking is almost impossible. the hotel lobby is small but the marble stairway is easy to navigate. the front-desk staff were helful with average english language skills and willing to tolerate our italian. we reserved a triple room that was small but not cramped. the best surprise was the bathroom, which was large with an excellent shower. breakfast was ok with bread and cereal. it would have been better with some meat, cheese and fruit. the hotel was nice but seemed to lack personality. we would consider returning to virgilio but we might try somewhere else just for the adventure.

wir haben 5 tage im virgilio verbracht: der reihe nach: flughafen transfer (über das hotel arrangiert) war absolut klasse. pünktlich (bei an- und abreise), freundlich und sogar mit ein paar erklärungen zu den gebäuden an denen wir "vorbeigeflogen" sind. das geld war jeden cent wert !!, ankunft im hotel: freundlich und verbindlich, aber: " wir haben ein problem" das gebuchte zimmer war nicht frei. schuld waren natürlich die touris die den falschen abreistag angegeben hatten. also: eine nacht im 2. og. die zimmer dort sind unterste schublade., dafür wurden wir dann allerdings an den folgetagen mehr als entlohnt, als wir zur "belohnung" für unser aufgebrachtes verständnis dann ins 3. og ziehen durften. die zimmer dort waren tiptop und den umzug haben nicht selber machen müssen ., viel kritik haben wir im vorfeld über das frühstück gelesen. nun, entweder sind wir einfach gestrickt oder haben da was falsch verstanden. für uns war das frühstück absolut ok. brötchen, marmelade, süße sachen (kuchen, croissants), kaffee, saft (ok, kein hohes c), schmierkäse und auf wunsch sogar espresso oder sonstige frisch zubereitete kaffespezialitäten. , also: laßt euch nicht bange machen. das frühstück ist ok, wenn man es nicht gerade gewohnt ist, jeden morgen am buffet im adlon zu speisen., noch positiv zu erwähnen sind gianfranco und helga am empfang., insbsondere gianfranco spricht vorzügliches englisch und kommt auch zum dienst, wenn er in der nacht vorher nur 3 stunden geschlafen hat. wenn er es nicht erwähnt hätte, hätte es keiner gemerkt :-), last not least ein restaurant-tip. aus dem hotel raus, links rum, 1 kreuzung links und das 2. restaurant auf der rechten seite., wenn nochmal rom, dann wieder virgilio

via palermo, una piccola strada molto rumorosa!!, malgrado avessimo riservato largamente in anticipo, la prima notte ci hanno rifilato una singola spacciandola per una matrimoniale piccola. inoltre i mobili erano tutti rotti, e nella stanza da bagno non c'era un (1) solo accessorio che non fosse rotto o scardinato. per fortuna che il letto era intero. il giorno dopo ci hanno dato la camera che avevamo normalmente riservato. (overbooking?), numero della camera da evitare 124!!!

we stayed on the first floor in a room for 3. our window looked out into the alley which was noisy all night. the room was small and cramped. the tv was not working so we reported it to the front desk. no tv the first day. we reported it again to the front desk on day two...no tv on day two. on our last day we received a tv that worked. channel selection was very bad. the shower door was broken off so they installed a flemsy wire to hold this huge shower curtin. the shower leaked from below (under the shower) onto the bathroom floor...water everywhere. mold on the bathroom walls. the bath towels were as thin as table cloths. the hall outside our front door was very noisy all night to the point we had to open the door and ask people to please be quiet. this place is a 1 star hotel for the price of a 3 star. not good at all.

the staff were english speaking and friendly. the hotel was conveniently located. there generally wasn't enough hot water in the mornings - but then i have come across few hotels that are able to manage that. , i do have some doubts about the customer focus: our bathroom needed work on the floor tiles; they undertook it while we were out - which was good - and the first we knew was when we returned to the hotel at about 17.00 after walking around rome all day. but the work also required us to be locked out of the bathroom until 22.00 for the tiles to set. we were hot and (of course) needed a shower; we had to be firm to get access to a shower in another room. that we would need such facilities hadn't been foreseen!

we would highly recommend this small but stylish hotel for its excellent location beside, the nazionale and still quiet for rome. we could reach all the tourist attractions on foot. , we also appreciated the large room and the fri-, endly staff (we speak italian). the only exception is breakfast and the horrible coffee. but there is a bar around the corner and theay serve excellent capuccino or espresso....

size of ("superior...") single room and size of the bed was much too small (only possibility to open a regular suitcase was on the bed). equipment in the room was poor or useless (e.g. mini-tv only with few local italien channels, mini-bar not cool, not even a soap-dish is installed in the shower). not a single sheet of paper with any sort of information or guidance was in the room. noise from outside is o.k., but any move, shower or toilet flush of other guests is heard clarly. i have never been in something like this for more than euro 150.- per night.

the receptionist was rude, , the breakfast basic, , the lamp fell to pieces in my hand, , the phone in the room did not work, , although we rang them from australia to enusre they had airconditoning, upon arrival we were told that it would not be turned on by the hotel for a few more weeks., , there was no information in the room about the hotel. they advertised a basic in room service. where was it? the booking manager accused us of exaggerating the state of the tiny room. we could not fit the two suitcases in it properly.

upon arrival the man at the desk was very helpful however our room was not ready at 1:30 pm.he held our luggage and let us use the rest room.the room was very small. could not open luggage unless you put it on the bed and had to jump over one bed to get to the other.the shower took 7 minutes to get warm-never hot and (the door was removed so you could sit on the toilet) the water in the shower flooded since the curtain did not fit. we used the towels to keep some of the water at bay but they did not help much. the room had a musty moldy odor. we asked for a car to the airport at 6am which was probable a mistake since we arrived back at the hotel very late and did not realize that my daughters new leather jacket was missing until the morning when we had to leave and could not file a report or we would miss the plane.

on our arrival we were allocated a triple room (as requested) that was unfinished, bare wires hanging out of the walls, no side lights, no curtains and tiny. we complained atraight away and were upgraded the following morning to a much better room, no arguments. we decided to stay on for another 6 days after our friend left and were given a really good deal on a superior twin room. i don't know that it was really superior by my standards, but it was fine and quiet. the staff were very helpful and friendly. the breakfast was adequate as far as italian breakfasts go, there is no use comparing it to uk breakfasts as the italians treat breakfast altogether differently from us. i have learnt from experience to take a travel kettle, tea bags etc and took my own muesli as well! all in all though i would stay at virgilio again, it was very near all the sights in all directions. having been to rome on several occasions i can honestly say i have stayed in worse. if you think it is too pricey you can try haggling, it works for me! we had a very pleasant stay.

i stayed at the hotel with my 10 year old son, and generally we were happy with th hotel. it was extremely clean and very quiet. the room was nice - not very big but big enough. on the downside, we arrived at the specified check-in time but were told the room wasn't ready and even though my son had a bad stomach ache we had to wander around rome for an hour and a half before we could check in. breakfast was pretty lowsy - poor service, poor foeed and a freezing cold room which did not have enough tables/cahirs for the guests. i had my handbag stoled in rome (despite being ever so careful!!) in a church of all places! the hotel staff were moderately helpful but i felt they could have done more. overall, i would stay there again but would book without breakfast (if that is possible - i haven't checked).

we were a large party travelling together for a long weekend in rome. the location of the hotel was brilliant ( you could walk anywhere)and the hotel itself was great. for our first night we were in a slightly unfinished room (some of the rooms were being refurbished) but the management promised that we would be in a different room for the remainder of our stay and, sure enough, the following night we were moved to a lovely room on the third floor. the staff were friendly (the concierge booked us a nearby restaurant one night and arranged for one of their staff to guide us to it) and the breakfast was continental but plentiful. all in all, a great choice and we would definitely stay there again!

they didn't have soft, fluffy towels (only hard stiff towels like tablecloths). no heat in my room (i stayed in february) however it wasn't too cold (and they had extra blankets). bathroom was excellent and furnishings were good but the room was a tad bit small (but expected this). the mattress sagged a little on one side, providing a somewhat lopsided sleep. otherwise, great location, competent, knowledgeable staff, nice breakfast room. felt safe there.

stayed 9th - 14th feb 2006. great location for visiting main attractions except vatican (an easy metro ride away). excellent reception staff, clean rooms (noise of water from other bathrooms only a problem if you're very fussy) breakfast ok but beware of gluey rice crispies, weak oj and uht tasting milk. no bar or tea/coffee making facilities as advertised but plenty of eateries locally. great gelato bar two streets away. would recommend this hotel. oh and be aware that you will be asked for full payment up front.

the virgilio was generally a very nice establishment, with staff who were helpful and spoke fairly good english. , minor complaints include: a)noisy room - we were initially situated in a room alongside the 24-hour tumble drier outlet, so had to be moved; b)the lift broke down several times during our stay - and there were only stairs to the floor below us - so we had to use the lift servicing the apartments above; c) we would probably have spent a lot more money in the hotel bar if it was ever open!, aside from these problems, the rooms were very clean and the hotel seemed to have been newly refurbished.

i have now stayed at the virgilio two times and have been very happy with it. i had previously stayed at the caravaggio, in the same street, but that is now closed. this is a little further along via palermo from stazione termini. i had a single room, which was small but adequate as i had only to stay overnight and reach fiumicino in the morning. for a single traveler staying for several days or more, i would definitely recommend a single room. my friends thought it was charming, especially the staircase, and my friend who came to look at the room found it "carina" if small. lots of good restaurants in the immediate area, and not too expensive, some open continuously. safe, secure area. recommended.

we stayed for 6 nights, and the total price came to just over $600 american. it was withing walking distance to termini station and a close walk to the colluseum, forum, and the metro. the rooms were absolutely beautiful and much larger than the average european room. morning coffee was wonderful ( the rolls were yucky...) but nice coffee in the morning in a beautiful dining room was very nice. hotel staff was helpful and friendly and spoke english well. i wold highly reccomend this hotel and think its the best deal i've found in a long time.

we are a younger couple from san francisco, so this may be of more help to people not living in nice quiet suburbs or who are used to city life (which rome most certainly is). the customer service was average - questions answered when asked, but nothing amazing or overly warm. room was cleaned well everyday, and as for noise, other than the faint hum of the via nazionale (about 2 blocks away) it was quiet. close to everything (even walked to vatican city in 20 minutes), but rome is not that large to begin with. the bathrooms were nice and the shower was great. the neighborhood (described by some as "seedy" is about as dangerous as ice cream (unless you count cobblestones as dangerous), and there is even a great pizza place about a block away (make a reservation). the only complaint i would have is that our safe was broken. the breakfast was pretty bland, but why eat breakfast in a hotel in italy? there are about 5 bars/cafes on that block alone. we would definelty stay again.

when we booked in september the price was 80 euro per double room per night this turned out to be really good value. 2 days before our stay i checked the web site again and the price was 147 euro this would not have been value for money. some of the rooms could do with a bit of an overall but they are clean. excellent location and the staff were very helpful when approached. overall a good place to stay and if ever back in rome would consider staying there again.

el hotel es bastante básico, pero suficiente. la calefacción era insuficiente con lo que pasamos bastante frío. nos hicieron pagar el hotel por adelantado nada más llegar, y como eran las 11 de la mañana y no tenían las habitaciones, nos dijeron que volvieramos más tarde, pero eso si, despues de haber pagado., la situación es bastante buena. si volviera a roma probablemente me quedaría en el hotel canova, ya que unos amigos se hospedaron allí en vez del en virgilio y su experiencia fue mejor., you have to paid the room in the check-in even if the room is not ready for you. that happened to us: we arrived and paid the room, later we were told to come back later because the room was not ready for us., the central heating did not work properly, so it was very cold., two friends of us stayed at canova hotel very near, and their experience was better than ours.

we could not have asked for a more perfect hotel from which to base ourselves. virgilio has an ideal location off the via nazionale, and is five minutes walk away from a main mentro station. there are some wonderful, wonderful restaurants and coffee shops in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, and the location on a side street makes this a very quiet hotel in which to stay - a rarity in central rome! , the staff all speak perfectly competent english and were friendly, polite and very helpful. rooms, though a little on the small side, were very clean and very well-maintained. also, the airport transfer service offered by virgilio is really excellent, and great value for money, considering the cars are very spacious and very comfortable. , although breakfast is included in the rate, a nearby breakfast restaurant proved to be better than what's on offer in the virgilio, but that's the only complaint, and it's very minor. we had no problems with service as regards hot water, towels, air conditioning, or general information, and the staff and management here do a wonderful job of maintaining what has become my new favourite hotel in rome. we would - and already have - wholeheartedly recommended virgilio to friends and family alike as an ideal spot from which to discover the beauty of rome.

we were a family of 4 and had booked a suite( which we expected to be a little larger than a double rooom).when we arrived on new years eve we were told that a suite was not available until next day and that we would spend one night in a room for 4 people. it was very disappointing in that it was no more than a double room with 2 extra single beds added. it was far too small for 4 people. when we did move to a suite the next day we got a great room with a very large main room( bigger than the room the previous night) and a smaller room with 2 single beds. this was even more than we had expected. we were on the 3rd floor( room 324) and it seems third floor is more modern than other floors. also previous reviews said the breakfast was terrible. i think this is a little unfair .it is limited but not nearly as bad as described by other reviewers. , in summary hotel is well located, staff are friendly , 3rd floor rooms are more modern( room 324 excellent). , family from dublin ireland

our stay at the virgilio overall was very good. the rooms were very clean and upscale. the hosts were professional and pleasant but not overly eager to be of assistance. breakfast was very mediocre. instead i'd recommend finding a nice cafe nearby and enjoying a cappucino while mixing with the amazing energy generated by the locals. the shuttle service to and from the airport was awesome! i'd highly recommend taking advantage of this service. also, the hotel's location, not on the busy streets, was nice. yet it still was centrally located to all the main sites in downtown rome. ciao!

the cost of our triple room, through venere.com, was less than half the price advertised at the hotel itself. however, what we paid was the right amount for this hotel. the location was excellent, as were the staff. the only negatives were; the hot water was limited to one bath or shower, and it was the most basic breakfast we have ever had. none the less the, croissants, bread rolls and jam were very filling., my family and i would highly recommend hotel virgilio and would return for our next visit to rome.

a very good situated hotel in the center of rome. a helpfully personal. we liked there taxi service to and from the airport. ask for a room where you can use the stair. ett bra hotel med hjälpsam personal. boka tidigt för ett bra pris. undvik hissen.

hotel is ideally located within walking distance of all tourist sites, only criticism was they advertised a bar in the hotel of which there was downstairs next to dining room, but we never saw it used as a bar it was used for the overspill for the dining room for breakfast.

expensive - but may be not for the excellent location in the centre of rome. breakfast is simple but there is plenty of it. rooms are very basic, the satellite tv only just worked and had no english speaking channels and occasionally the hot water ran out. the staff were very helpful.

15 of us stayed for four days - mots had no problems at all and several would use the hotel again. nasty smell in one room and the receptionist was unable to help as the manager would not be available until the next day but otherwise the facilities were all that you could want for a reasonably priced hotel in the centre of a capital city. very convenient for all attractions and several excellent small restaurants within walking distance.

our first night, they were out of rooms because a tour group had decided to stay another night -- so we had to spend our first night in rome in another hotel around the corner. that said, we were upgraded to a lovely suite. the room was extremely clean and well-maintained. the hotel is on a side street which minimizes the amount of street noise you will hear. trust me! it's important! they also had double-pane windows to help muffle any sound., the hotel is situated in a great area. within 4 city blocks of the main railway station, just a block from a main strip of shopping and just 2 city blocks from the underground metra. it was easy to reach any of our tourist destinations on foot (although we took a metra to vatican city). the longest we walked was a half an hour -- but the walk seemed like nothing because we were able to take in all of the sites along the way. we were even walking around at midnight and felt perfectly safe in the neighborhood., i would easily recommend this room as an economical place to stay with a good location.

this hotel was as described. first time in rome and would stay there again. was within a very short walk to termini station and although not "quiet" it was in the city for goodness sake! the elevator was out of service when i arrived but back in by the day i checked out. overall was very satisfied!

upon our arrival, we were told that the two rooms we had reserved were not available. we were offered a suite that sleeps four or transfer to another hotel for one night. we selected the "suite" because we had arrangements for the following morning to meet someone at the hotel., the "suite" was very small and uncomfortable for four adults.

a pleasant hotel in a side street just off via nazionale within walking distance of collosseum, trevi fountain,spanish steps, terminni railway station and st maria maggiore. bus to piazza del popolo and piazza di st giovanni in laterano can be caught from end of road, bus to st peters, piazzo navona and pantheon can be caught from via nazionale altho we also walked to these but nice to be able to get bus back after hard days sightseeing, room clean and adequate with en suite entrance hall has marble staircase and chandelier. breakfast usual continental style. reception staff friendly and helpful.

giancarlo and helga were very helpful and patient in accommodating our large group of 18 persons. they assisted us with tours, restaurant reservations, and transportation from and to the airport. our major concern was that the elevator was out of order on 2 days, which was a challenge for some of us. also, we had difficulty using our phone cards for international calls from our rooms. , the location of the hotel was good, in that we were able to walk to many of the places we wanted to go.

a terrible hotel with rude service. our room had a very noisy air-conditioner that "wooshed" all night. my mother & i had luke-warm showers every morning and told by staff that no one else had complained. the breakfast was appalling and the worst i've ever had in all of europe. the coffee was undrinkable and the service brash and offhand. if this is a 3 star hotel then i'm a monkey's uncle. a most disappointing experience.

overall the hotel was excellent for our requirements. being very central we were able to walk to all the main attractions apart from the vatican (use the no 64 bus on via nazionale). bedroom on 3rd floor was excellent although not large it was certainly adequate for a 3 night stay- bathroom had all required facilities. bedroom faced onto internal courtyard and was very quiet. breakfast was ok - plenty of croissants and coffee - don't bother with the orange juice! lift very small and broke down for 24hours while we were there. 10-15 min walk from termini. would definitely stay here again.

very noisy street, but probably that would be the same anywhere in the city. the in-room phone service is bad in that you cannot make an outside call with a calling card or any other service. the desk requires that they make all calls for you at a whopping 2 euros a minute.

we had a wonderful stay at the virgilio. the staff were exceptionally helpful, the room was clean and comfortable and quiet (small, but we didn't spend much time inside so it didn't matter to us), and the location was fantastic. we walked to all the sights (except the vatican): the colosseum, the pantheon, trevi fountain, spanish steps, etc. our favorite restaurant in all of rome was at a small pizzeria around the corner from the hotel - we knew it was good before tasting the food because it was jammed with locals every day. the best pizza i've ever had! we highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there again in the future.

the room we had , #324 was a family room, really big and great value for money. it was newly decorated (a bit dark, brown decor) but still very pleased with it. the bathroom was fantastic - really clean and all new fittings., the location was really quiet. it was about a 10-15 minute walk to trevi through a really noisy, fume-filled underpass/tunnel road - not pleasant but on the second night discovered a scenic way avoiding the tunnel so was fine. if only staying for 3 nights like we were then the distance was not an issue (and preferred the tranquility away from hustle and bustle of trevi)., friendly on the desk. hotel to airport taxi transfer was excellent even if a little more expensive than a regular taxi., breakfast was really simple. coffee and a roll about covers it, but this is the only critisism., overall this hotel was great value and would stay here again, especially in the room we had., oh, and if you go to the vatican, cupola and sistine chapel on the same day then do the visits at these times and in this order., 8.30 am cupola, then the basilica, then 11.30am museum/sistine chapel - it will save you hours of queueing !

nous avons passé 3 jours à rome, àl'hôtel virgilio. notre réservation était faite déjà 4 mois auparavant. il s'agissait de notre voyage de noce et c'était bien indiqué sur notre réservation. a notre arrivé, le receptionniste nous faisait en premier lieu payer la chambre. ensuite, il nous disait qu'il n'avait pas une belle chambre seulement une chambre standart, car il y avait trop de touriste (étrange...il connaissait bien la date de notre arrivée)la chambre était au 1ier étage, minuscule, la douche (meme propre) , un rideaux, meme pas protection, la salle étant innondée quand on prenait und douche....la salle de bain était dans un état pitoyable....le lit .....on en parle meme pas, on roulait toute seule au milieu, car les matelas étaient vieux come un trampoline.....il n'y a vait meme pas de petit coffre fort.....franchement une chambre à 100 euros, qui vallait peut être meme pas 60!!!!!, le lendemain, nous avons déménagé dans une chambre au 3ième étage, la chambre était mieux, même jolie, mais bcp trop petit......, le matin, lors du pet. déjeuner, il n'y avait pas assez de place pour tous les gens (44 chambre et peut être 8-10 tables) le service était nul, on devait attendre que la fille nettoyait la table pendant 10 minutes, ensuite, il n'yavait plus de petits pain...la confiture dans un formule 1 en france est supérieure que celle-ci du virgilio...mais je pense, cest rome!!!!! sinon, les grands sites sont pas loins....l'hôtel est bien situé...., mais, la prochaine fois, si nous revenons à rome, nous prenons que un hotel d'une grande châine comme mercure ou sofitel, au moins, nous ne sommes pas décu....meme si nous devrons payer le prix...., claude et christine de genève

virgilio was a pretty nice place to stay at in rome, although i found a few things bothersome. outside calls could not be made except from the front desk, and i was not notified there would be a charge until i checked out and had to pay it. i had to pay 5 euro for one local call. we stayed here again at the end of our trip, and we got a much larger room with better accomodations, so i guess it's th eluck of the draw. the service is excellent, though- the consierge brought my wife and i warm croissants at six o'clock as we waited for our taxi, even though breakfast had not started yet. another recommendation- take the shuttle to and from the airport. we decided against it, and dealt with a taxi driver with an old, beat up, hard-seated car, and still ended up paying 40 euro. we decided to use the shuttle service on the way back to the airport, and were ferried in a plush late-model mercedes-benz. definitely worth the extra 7 euro.

we are a married couple who had a 3 day break in rome at the beginging of august. the hotel was very conveniently situated to many of the top 10 sites and very quiet at night. the only draw back was that the air conditioning was not working for the whole of the third floor and the temperatures were very warm indeed! the hotel were not able to offer us alternative accommodation but were very polite and apologetic. highly reccommended.

i'll say this; the room was clean. very small but very clean. being the last night of a 12 day italian vacation we weren't in the room for very long but, getting to our final room destination was a different story. we knew going into this european "air conditioning" in hotels is not what we expect as american travelers but the first two rooms were in excess of 85 degrees with the a/c supposedly running. i'd recommend you request, up front, rooms on the 1st floor which, by the graces of a very pleasant, understanding and customer focused desk manager, is where we finally laid our heads at night. the room was comfortably cool which was all we were looking for. do not be fooled by their advertised breakfast. we do a fair amount of european travel and breakfast was paltry compared to other stays, even in rome. coffee, hot tea, a roll, cold cereal, croissant. thus was your breakfast selection. i would neither recommend for or against this property because we hit rome at what must have been the hottest july in years but, for the price, room size, air conditioning and lack of a breakfast to speak of, i think you can find better properties and values if you keep searching a bit more.

very comfortable room, despite a slightly cramped layout. my room had a balcony overlooking via palermo below which was very nice both during the day and in the evening when very pleasant music could be heard from the restaurants below. the location of the hotel was ideal. close to termini but also just a short walk to the colosseum, forum, and many sites. i even walked to the vatican from the hotel. though it was a bit farther, i still felt central at virgilio. everything was very clean and the staff i came in contact with were helpful although the woman at the desk when i first arrived did not seem very friendly but i interacted with her again at the end of my stay and she was very pleasant. , i would likely stay at virgilio again.

we stayed at hotel virgilio from 8 may 2005 to 11 may 2005. location was excellent as it was in a quiet street running parallel to via nazionale. this provided easy access to the main train station (short bus ride)as well as bus or walking to the major attractions. room was very quite and although not large was more than adequate and comfortable with a good size bed. breakfast was good particularly the coffee. staff were very friendly, helpful and spoke good english which helped as this was our first visit to rome. more than happy to recommend the hotel and would probably be our choice for a future stay.

our stay was very enjoyable at the hotel virgilio. the staff were friendly and helpful. our triple and double rooms were clean, well maintained and the airconditioning was welcome during a heatwave in rome in june 2005. the hotel is easily accessible to all the sights: walking, by bus and by subway. would highly recommend it for its location and standards.

this hotel didn't quite meet our expectations. , our main complaint was about the air-condition. with the high temperatures of the summer season one would expect the hotel to have a proper air-condition system. but this system was inadequate and were hardly able to cool down our room at all., but the worst thing was that the air-condition was only turned on at specific hours. probably an effort to save money on power, but on the expence of the guests. the ac shut down at 11pm and then on again at about 5am and then off again at 9am. trying to sleep in 35 degrees celsius wasn't very fun..., they even shut off all the electrical power during the night! better bring a flashlight if you want to go to the toilet at 4am..., we complained about the ac to the reception, but they weren't even willing to have it on for another hour. great service..., on the upside, the room was not bad and looked clean. the hotel is located in a quiet area and there wasn't any problem with noise or disturbance. breakfast was poor tho. only bagels and cereal., location wise it was close to one of the main streets and that was good, but it's a 10 mins walk to the subway system. 15 mins to the central station and about the same to the colosseum., all in all i would not reccommend this hotel. it's suppose to be 3 stars, but i wouldn't give it more than 2. , even with the relatively high price of the room, this hotel was very "cheap" indeed...

staff was less than friendly and only helpful if there was money to be made. room was poor. air conditioning worked, somewhat, shower was broken. location was good for site seeing. i have stayed in many hotels in europe, and this hotel would get my lowest rating for the money spent. i guess that's why they wanted full payment for the stay when we checked in.

hotel advertized air conditioning - when we checked in we were told air conditioning wouldn't be turned on till sometime in june. no reduction in room rate was given. the bathroom was very small - couldn't turn around in the shower - plus mold on back of shower walls and on the wall above the shower. bathroom very very small. didn't sleep at night due to the fact that had to keep the window open for some fresh air (very little) - lot of noise on the street. would never stay here again and would not recommend this hotel to anyone. room rates are very overpriced for what you get.

die angebotene deluxe zimmerkategorie gibt es nicht. die zimmer waren bei ankunft trotz zweimonatiger voerheriger buchung nicht verfügbar. als gleichwertig wurden drei zimmer angeboten, bei denen die betten größer waren( 130) aber die zimmer mini, bei einem war das bad so weit ins zimmer gebaut, das das fenster halb zugebaut war??. wenn man zu normalen konditionen bucht, ist das preis/leistungsverhältnis gut. das hotel liegt super zentral und die straße ist nicht viel befahren (laut durch kopfsteinpflaster). das frühstück ist mager, saft aus dem automat, kein käse, keine joghurt, kein obst, keine ei, keine wurst. die restauranttipps der rezeption sind sehr gut, die zimmer sauber, man sollte versuchen nach der buchung anzurufen und eines nach hinten raus reservieren.

i have stayed in many hotels in europe, so was expecting your typical small, crowded room. since i was with my family, requested a triple, and was pleasantly surprised with room 324. this was double the size of most american hotel rooms - more like a suite. room was also on the inside courtyard, so very quiet. overall position of the hotel is excellent. air conditioning, cnn, and a nice bathroom rounded out our wonderful stay. hotel is within 10-15 minutes walking of the major attractions (e.g. trevi fountain, spanish steps, pantheon, colleseum). also, located on a quiet street which is a rare find in this hectic city. helga was very helpful with recommendations for restaurants, sightseeing locations, tour booking, and taxi/limo to/from airport. warning - highly recommend booking a car to meet you at the airport and take you back to the airport. will cost a fixed 55 euros each way, but taking a taxi can be much more if you get stuck in traffic. also, show your driver the name of your airport on paper when you leave. there are 2 airports, and they can get easily confused.

we were very disappointed with this hotel. it showed major signs of lack of maintenance. the bathrooms smelled moldy and three of the four reserved rooms had plumbing problems. the front desk was helpful with taxis and did move one of our party to another room when they complained. overall i would not recommend it and definitely would not return.

we have staied 4 nights. first night room was tyoo small. we wanted to change a room with bathtub. the room was not so small. but the ventilation fan was broken. brekfast was too bad. we have taken bar near by the hotel.

very convenient location. we were able to walk to all of the popular sites except the vatican. lovely decor and beautiful new tile work in the bath. however, we were not pleased with the cleanliness of the facility. we were given a bath mat that had been used by previous guests. the tile in the bathroom was covered with mildew (have they not heard of bleach?) and the bath thus smelled of mildew. , the breakfast was fine and the hotel staff were helpful, although the initial reception was not very warm or welcome. i think that if we were in rome again we would try to find another place.

the room was very small. although recently refurbished there was water damage to the headboard and a constant noise of running water between our room and next door which did not seem to worry the staff.the in room safe was broken on arrival and was not repaired after 4 days. breakfast was adequate but don't expect anything more than coffee and rolls and very watered down orange juice.a bar was advertised and to be fair does exist but it was never open,so forget a nice beer after a long day sightseeng! on a positive note the hotel is very central and within walking distance of most of the sights. there are several reasonably priced restaurants nearby.

the virgilio is a small hotel located within blocks of the coliseum and the piazza della reppublica. the inside of the hotel is very nice, white shiny white tiles lining the lobby and hallways. however, the rooms (at least mine) are dismal and frightfully small--and in the bathroom there was hardly enough room to turn around. it's also impossible to operate the ac, making for a very hot room each evening that i stayed there. at 100 euro per night, i felt it was highly overpriced, even given that it's centrally located. the staff were gracious and very helpful.

excellent location within walking distance of all the major attractions. very clean and well decorated. if new to rome, first take the open top bus to familiarise yourself with the location of the major attractions. start early at the vatican as there's much to see and some queuing.

convenient to the train and forum areas and a surprisingly easy walk to most every where in the old city---a little hard to find since the information center maps almost conceal the street name--lot of night life nearby---room was as well furnished as any higher hotel would have been

the hair dryers in both rooms were broken, the sheets were ripped, the hand railing in the stairwell came out of the wall as i held on to it going up the stairs causing me to trip, the breakfast area was very small, the rooms were very small. the street is quiet but not much else there and was far from sites.

the staff was very helpful and friendly. the rooms are a bit small but that is to be expected for hotels in europe. we reserved 4 rooms and each room had small problems such as burnt out light bulbs, light fixtures were broken, and window latch was broken.

a decent place, close to the colusseum. virgilo was our base for three days on our italy trip and was the best three star hotell we stayed at for the fortnight we travelled in italy. rome is slightly more expensive than other towns. taking that into consideration the price of our stay at virgilo with it's location and help we received from the employees it was excellent. if i had to say one thing negative it was that i am not a morning bird and therefore was bruptly awoken from inpatient drivers outside the hotel at eightish in the morning the days we were there. apart from that, virgilo is highly recommendable and i would definatly stay there again.
