At the brown trout inn you can keep fit in the new gym, enjoy fishing, go horse riding or play golf on the inn's private 9-hole golf course. the gym is fully equipped and the golf course crosses water 7 times, but you're never far from help and encouragement from bar manager of 39 years, gerry mcilwaine.

we enjoyed the cosiness and sheer size of the room and bathroom area. with two dogs in tow, the space made the whole experience much more pleasant. the courtyard layout was very pleasant and while most other rooms were occupied, we were able to maintain our privacy.

there was some intermittent noise from the main road to the rear of the accommodation but this did not unduly upset us.

the brief break was very good, the pets welcome feature was great. the breakfast was made to order and hadn't congealed and become cold as is the norm in many larger franchised hotels. the staff were genuinely friendly and the walk around the golf course and the river was perfect first thing on a sunny morning.

the management at the venue were friendly, enthusiastic at attentive. the food was excellent and the room was clean and was a good size.

it was over priced for a weekend stay esp. given the out of the way location. i would have liked more of the venue to have been no-smoking, esp. the room as there was a lingering smell of tobacco (no fault of the staff). the room backed onto a rather noisy main road.

my negative comments are far outweighed by the positive features of the hotel. we enjoyed our stay and the area tremendously.
