i stayed four days in this hotel and in general was disappointed.
for the price, the rooms were quite small and characterless - certainly they did not have the '.charm of provence'. i was expecting from the photographs and write-up.
also, the staff were rather offhand and condescending.
i would probably look for other alternatives if i stayed in avignon again - but then i probably would opt for another town altogether if i returned to the area. i thought st remy and arles were far more appealing towns than avignon.

bathroom was only 90 cm (!) wide and very uncomfortable to use. breakfast not very generous.

the hotel was very old (300+). it has a certain feel to it. indeed romantic but very old,cold and echoing feel. dress warm in winter, little heat.
it was a different but still a great experience.

the hotel is situated in a side street. the old city wall (with porte st roch) is about 160 meters away. also convenient is a big supermarket about 500 meters away (behind the railway underpass at avenue eisenhower). the central railway station and the shuttle bus to the tgv station (departs in front of the main post office) are slightly over 600 m away. walking distance to the pont d'.avignon and popes palace is about 1,4 km.
the staff was helpful but not exceedingly friendly. communication was not a problem. (english went well.)
the hotel is in an old building that looks run-down from the front. they put the rear view as ".front view". in the gallery. we had a room to the garden. sounds from neighboring rooms come through the walls quite easily. the railway line passes about 150 m away (only slow trains there, fortunately). also, there currently is a big construction site right next to the hotel. there was not very much space left in the room with four beds. the bathroom was basic. one good thing was a metal rack to put your toiletry on. there were only two free outlets in the room.
breakfast is basic, too. no fruits, no müesli. one croissant and a piece of baguette per person. children pay full price.

staff are friendly.
room is clean and pretty.
bath room is musty because of age.
it is a bit far from station.(10 minutes on foot)

l'.hotel est un peu loin des centres d'.intérêt, mais quand même accessible à la marche. mis à part une habitude de parfumer les draps qui était plus désagréable que plaisante, tout était parfait au cours de notre séjour à cet hotel. l'.accueil fut chaleureux et la chambre très propre et confortable.

the room was located just off a charming courtyard. itwas clean and comfortable and reasonably roomy given european standards. the breakfast area was very pretty and the man who was running the place was very helpful. don'.t be put off by the exterior appearance. the hotel is just outside the walled city and very convenient for walking to the sites one might want to visit.

the hotel was very basic. tiled floors basic amenities (no hairdryer or other luxuries)and just a clothes rail (no wardrobe). it seemed other rooms were more comfortable but what do you expect for 50 euros a night. the sounds of next door'.s shower could be heard as clearly as if it was our own and the cleaning staff started promptly at 08.00 am which meant you got up at the same time due to the noise. all the main sights in avignon are inside the city walls which are only about 1 minute away but at night the streets around the nearest entrance to the city are unsavioury and bleak.
for a similar price but with air conditioning try the ibis or etap hotels just round the corner.

i have sent a separate email listing complaints about this property.
the only meal we had at the saint roch was breakfast - one piece of bread and one croisant every morning for seven days.no fresh cheese or jam,only pre packed stuff.
one safety issue with the room - the step out of the shower is 14 or 15 inches which for elderly people is not safe.the step is one of up about 6 inches and then down 14.the only plus side is that it is near the station.

this hotel is right outside the old city wall. it is a surprise once you go in. it has charm in the reception, breakfast room and garden. our room was bright yellow with red accents--very cheerful. not luxurious, but cute. the price wasn'.t too bad either.

le camere erano davvero molto pulite, ma l'.accoglienza è stata scarsa, pagamento anticipato ancor prima di dire buongiorno. la città di avignone non è un granchè a livello turistico. la zona è comunque tranquilla.

el hotel esta bien situado si vas en coche y quieres aparcar. las habitaciones son antiguas, graciosas pero no especialmente confortables, y con un poco de polvo. no tienen enchufes en el cw. el recepcionista es un enteraillo. no hay ascensor. pero en general si vas de paso esta bien.

unfortunately the hotel was full up so we only stayed for one night.

i would never ever stay here. they screwed up booking obviously: so ended up in a single bed room. i suspect there were bed bugs as i itched for several days after. oh and i hope you like waking up at 3am cos that is when the garbage trucks arrive to make an utter racket for hours. then to add insult to injury, the shower has one setting.....freezing.

we think the map does not really show how close the hotel is to the old part of the city. it is only 5-10 mins walk to the main tourist information office. beautiful garden and rooms have individual style. we had a great balcony overlooking the garden. owners were friendly and helpful.
